UBA National Essay Competition aims to promote the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.

With a history of over 7 decades, UBA is one of the leading and most recognized banks to originate from sub-Saharan Africa. UBA has growing operations in 20 Africans countries, the UK, USA, UAE and a representative office in France.

The UBA National Essay Competition is targeted at senior secondary students in Nigeria, is organized annually, as part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative.

Essay topic: Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) take over Human Intelligence? What should students do to ensure AI doesn’t override but enhance their ability to learn through research?

Value of Award: 10.5 million naira

The prize for the UBA National Essay Competition is an educational grant to any African University of choice, for:

  • Winner: #5million
  • First runner-up: #3million
  • Second runner-up: #2.5million

Eligible Countries: Nigeria

Eligibility: To be considered for the UBA National Essay Competition, applicant:

  • Must be a Nigerian Senior Secondary school student
  • Must submit a passport photograph
  • Must submit a scanned copy of a means of identification (birth certificate, National ID, or passport)

How To Apply:

  • Applicants must upload a scanned copy of their original birth certificates or international passport data page.
  • Applicants must upload a handwritten essay (not more than 750 words) on the portal.
