2025 Tokyo University Amgen Scholars Program Summer School

The Amgen Scholars Program offers undergraduates a unique opportunity to conduct impactful research at world-class institutions around the globe, enhancing their academic and professional journeys. The Amgen Scholars Program offers undergraduates the chance to conduct biomedical research for eight weeks at top institutions worldwide, including the University of Tokyo.

Value: Accommodation is provided near the Hongo Campus by UTokyo, though some labs may require commuting by train.
-A stipend of 270,000 JPY is included, allowing participants to budget for food and personal travel during their stay in Japan.
-Economy-class airfare to Tokyo or round-trip train tickets for domestic students are provided, with the most economical route arranged by the program office. Changes for personal reasons require reimbursement of initial airfare costs to the University of Tokyo.
-Students must arrange their own private health and travel insurance, as the Amgen Foundation and UTokyo do not provide this.
-Travel allowances are offered for those commuting to campuses other than Hongo and Yayoi.

Eligibility:  UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program (hereby referred to as the summer program) applicants must be undergraduate students who are:
-Have an interest in pursuing a Ph.D
-Attending colleges or universities across the Asia region* that award a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent); and
-At the minimum, have completed their first year of undergraduate study at the time the summer program begins, and
-Not graduating before the summer program begins, and will resume undergraduate studies for at least 1 semester or 1 quarter after the summer program ends
-Have a strong record of academic performance; and
-Have a good working knowledge of English, demonstrated by a minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 72,
-IELTS overall band score of 5.5, Cambridge English FCE, TOEIC score of 1095, TOEIC L&R score of 785, or TOEIC S&W score of 310, if not a native English speaker or if English is not their first language.
