2025 German Bundestag Scholarship

The German Bundestag Scholarship is aimed at training African students who want to take an active and responsible role in shaping the democratic future of their countries.

Since 2020, the German Bundestag has been offering a scholarship program for talented and politically interested young university graduates from sub-Saharan Africa.

The scholarship considers candidates who are interested in the German parliamentary system and are actively committed to basic democratic values ​​in their home countries.

Type: Masters

Application Deadline: May 31, 2024

Value & Duration of Award:

  • Scholarship Value: €700, free accommodation, travel expenses coverage, and health, accident, and liability insurance
  • Internship: One-week placement in a German Bundestag member’s office
  • Curriculum: In-depth knowledge of parliamentary democracy, political decision-making, and workshops on societal issues

Eligibility: To be considered for the German Bundestag Scholarship, you must meet the requirements below:

  • Citizenship: From Botswana, Namibia, South Africa (Southern Africa); Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda (East Africa); Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal (West Africa)
  • Age: Below 30 at the start of the scholarship on January 1st
  • Education: Completed university studies
  • Language: Proficient in German (at least B2 level)
  • strong interest in political contexts as well as social/political commitment

How To Apply:

  • Compile the required documents as stated above in PDF format
  • Please send the complete application documents by email in a PDF document whose file name consists of your family name and first name ( ie Surname-Firstname.pdf) to the German Embassy Dar es Salaam via [email protected]

Required Documents:

  • Application Form
  • Passport photo
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Letter of motivation in German with your handwritten signature (maximum two pages);
  • Copy of passport or copy ID;
  • Degree certificate from the university
  • Proof of German Language proficiency
